Dr. Amy King is the founder and owner of InnerWoven Therapy. Since launching her private practice in 2020, she has become a trusted and sought-after expert in Asian American mental health. What began as a solo endeavor has grown into a thriving practice that brings together clinicians who share a commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive care.

Clinical Expertise

Dr. King is deeply passionate about supporting the mental health of Asian American communities. Her work spans a wide range of experiences, including those of first-generation, 1.5-generation, second-generation individuals, as well as transracial adoptees and multiracial clients. She specializes in issues related to identity development, family conflict, intergenerational trauma, and cultural dissonance.

For many Asian individuals, finding a therapist who truly understands the cultural nuances of their lived experience can be challenging. Western approaches to therapy don’t always translate well across cultures—and can even feel alienating. Dr. King bridges that gap by integrating evidence-based psychological practices with cultural insight and wisdom, offering care that honors both your mental health and your cultural identity.

She is trained in the treatment of personality disorders, complex and chronic mental illnesses, and perinatal mood disorders. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that emotional distress often stems from deeper patterns tied to early attachment experiences, family dynamics, and even intergenerational wounds.

Dr. King works holistically, addressing outward symptoms like panic attacks, irritability, and mood swings by exploring the underlying layers of your story—your past, your present, and your cultural context. Her goal is to help you uncover and transform the deeper causes of suffering so you can break free from unhealthy cycles, foster meaningful change, and move toward healing.

Training

Dr. King earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver's Graduate School of Professional Psychology and completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Hartford Hospital's Institute of Living. During her time at the Institute, she had the privilege of training under esteemed psychodynamic clinicians, where she deepened her expertise in applying personality-based conceptualizations across various levels of care.

As a predoctoral intern, Dr. King provided long-term psychotherapy, conducted comprehensive psychological assessments, and worked in the Young Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). She also delivered individual and group therapy on the inpatient psychiatric unit. During her fellowship, she served as a staff psychologist on the inpatient unit, where she led therapy groups, offered interdisciplinary consultations, and supervised predoctoral interns—further honing her clinical leadership and teaching skills.

Dr. King has completed advanced trainings in Perinatal Mood Disorders through Postpartum Support International.
